How this ranking works

How returns are calculated

We compare each stock's closing price at the start and end of past month, then rank every tracked stock by percentage change. No estimates or projections — every number traces back to an actual traded price.

Momentum vs. long-term investing

A strong short-term ranking reflects momentum — how far a price has moved recently — not durable, long-term compounding. Wealth creation is best judged over multi-year holding periods, not a single week or month.

Why CAGR isn't shown here

Annualising a short holding period inflates the number into something that isn’t a realistic "yearly rate." We only surface CAGR on one-year-plus horizons, where it reflects a genuinely comparable rate of return.

Past performance is not a guarantee

Rankings reflect historical price movement only. They aren't a recommendation to buy or sell. Always research a stock's fundamentals and consult a SEBI-registered advisor before investing.

Frequently asked

It depends on the time horizon you care about. Use the period tabs above (Past Week, Past Month, Past 3 Months, Past 6 Months, Past Year) to see which stocks moved the most over that specific rolling window, or browse by sector to focus on a single industry.

Rankings refresh on a rolling basis as new price data comes in. Each period/sector page shows exactly when its data was last generated near the top of the page.

Momentum investing is the practice of tracking stocks showing strong recent price performance, on the idea that trends can persist over the short term. It's a different lens from long-term, fundamentals-driven investing — both matter, but they answer different questions.

No — these rankings are based purely on price return (start price vs. end price), not total return including dividends. For a fuller wealth-creation picture including compounding over years, see a stock's Investment Journey on its individual stock page.

Rankings reflect historical price movement only and are not investment advice. Data updates on a rolling basis; prices may be delayed.

ReturnScreener is an educational research platform and is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser. These rankings are a record of price movement over a fixed past window — they are not a screen for quality, not a projection, and not a recommendation to buy anything on them. Short-window movement is the weakest of all the signals published on this site: it says nothing about a company's earnings, valuation or durability. Past performance does not guarantee future returns. See our methodology and disclaimer.
